Eagle Hotel          Eagle Hotel

In 1825 Thomas King's "Yellow Tavern," located on First and Walnut Streets, burnt to the ground. He and his father, Robert King, were already in the process of building a newer and grander building. That project was accomplished the next year by his master stone mason, Ebanezer Evans, and a group of local carpenters. Robert King died before the Eagle Hotel was opened.

Since it first opened there has been a succession of owners:

1826-1842 -- Thomas King
1842-1853 -- Amos Judson
1853-1857 -- John Curtis
1857-1862 -- J. L. Cook
1862-1870 -- Robert Leslie
1870-1872 -- P. E. Judson
1872-1879 -- Guy C. Judson
1879-1899 -- P. E. Judson
1899-1944 -- Stanley Cracker
1944-1954 -- Edith Cracker
