Death of George William "Bill" Skiff

Waterford High School - Class of 1954

Funeral services for Bill who passed on May 07, will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1 p.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Waterford. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.

Bill was born on January 4, 1937, the youngest son of the late Alton and Leah Skiff, of Waterford. George, or "Bill," as he was known to many of his friends graduated from the Waterford Academy in 1954, where he excelled in football and baseball, and was married to Sandra J. Wrona on January 15, 1955. Bill was an outstanding pitcher in High School, and was signed to a minor league contract, with the old New York Giants baseball club, in 1955. He spent several years in their minor league system, and ascended to the AA level, before his professional career was cut short by a back injury. By continuing to coach baseball throughout his entire life, Bill instilled his love of the game in his sons.

Kyle Reed Waid, of Waterford, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014. Born in Erie on March 10, 1999, Kyle was the son of Morris Walter Waid Jr. and Ocia June Reed Waid, and the brother of Megan E. Waid.

Kyle was a freshman student at Fort LeBoeuf High School, where he earned good grades and took some advanced classes. He was a talented guitar player and studied music at the World of Music, in Erie. Among his other interests, were playing soccer and street hockey, riding dirt bikes, and playing airsoft with his friends and cousin. Kyle really looked forward to hunting with his grandfather. He will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, Morris and Ocia Waid, and his sister, Megan Waid, all of Waterford, Kyle is survived by his grandparents - Ronald and Mary Reed of Meadville and Morris and Donna Waid of Saegertown; his maternal great-grandmother, Clara Clark of Titusville; a special great-aunt, Susan Kimmel of Meadville; aunts and uncles - Jon and Cheri Armitage of Cranberry Township, Heath and Robin DeWalt of Indianapolis, Ind., and Helen Waid of Meadville; and three cousins - Kase Armitage, Ellie Armitage, and Adalee DeWalt. Kyle was also loved by many extended family members and friends.

The Waid and Reed families will receive friends at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place there Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., followed by the committal service and burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, in Meadville.

Kathleen Marie Hanlon Volk, age 63, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Erie on November 9, 1950, daughter of the late Regis Hanlon and Virginia Hanlon Goodwill.

A graduate of Ft. LeBoeuf High School, Kathy worked for many years as a nurse's aide, then as a caregiver for Family Day Care, through the Office of Children and Youth; and then at Happy Hearts Day Care Center at the Gertrude Barber Center.

Kathy leaves behind her husband Bill, her daughter Kimberly, her son Kane; her grandchildren Kaylyn, Kelci, Kadin and Kolton, her brother Martin D. Hanlon of New York City; four nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by a brother, David P. Hanlon.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. James R.C. Death of Kevin T. Kukuda

Kevin T. Kukuda, age 46, of Summit Township, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Saint Vincent Hospital.

He was born May 9, 1968, in Waterford.

He worked as a service technician at Boldt Machinery. Kevin was an avid hunter and Miami Dolphin fan. He enjoyed bowling, volleyball, camping, basketball, and working on his classic cars. He was a Poker Master, and a Member of American Legion Post 285 in Waterford, and Pennbriar Athletic Club. His biggest joy was spending time with his three daughters, family, and friends. Kevin was a loving father, he touched everyone he encountered, he was the light of the room, a loyal friend, jack of all trades, and had a huge heart.

Survivors include three daughters, Miranda, Fiauna, and Tatum Kukuda, all of Erie; a brother, John C. Kukuda, wife Carrie, of Tampa, Fla.; and Teri Kukuda, the mother of his children.

He was preceded in death by Bonnie Loper, who served as his mother figure.

Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a service there Sunday at 12:30 p.m., with Fr. Michael DeMartinis officiating.

Death of Samuel "Sam" Faulhaber

Samuel "Sam" Faulhaber, age 80, of Waterford, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, at his home.

Sam was born July 28, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the son of the late Samuel and Dorothy Wooster Faulhaber.

Sam graduated from Waterford Academy in 1951, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and was a self-employed lumber man, owning his own sawmill. Along with a love of the woods, Sam entertained many interests and hobbies during his life. Farming, pulling tractors, and playing and listening to blue grass music were his favorites.

Along with his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Miller.

Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Ann Faulhaber; four daughters, Tammy Conn (Ronald), Laurie Winger (David), Nancy Reinwald (Gerald), and Lida Faulhaber. He also had three sons, Samuel Faulhaber Jr. (Ruth), Dana Faulhaber, and Charles Faulhaber (Debbie). Sam also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his two sisters, Lorraine Fox and Elizabeth Potter, and his brother, David Faulhaber.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Merle E. Wood Funeral Home, Inc. Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street on Greengarden Blvd., on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Death of George William "Bill" Skiff

George William "Bill" Skiff, age 77, of Aiken, S.C., and formerly of Waterford, PA, died on Wednesday, May 7, at Unihealth, in Aiken, where he was recovering from an extended illness.

Bill was born on January 4, 1937, the youngest son of the late Alton and Leah Skiff, of Waterford. Bill graduated from the Waterford Academy in 1954, where he excelled in football and baseball, and was married to Sandra J. Wrona on January 15, 1955.

Bill was an outstanding pitcher in High School, and was signed to a minor league contract with the old New York Giants baseball club in 1955. He spent several years in their minor league system, and ascended to the AA level before his professional career was cut short by a back injury.

By continuing to coach baseball throughout his entire life, Bill instilled his love of the game in his sons, grandchildren and their friends. He took a Pony League All Star team to the PA State Championship Tournament in 1969, and was inducted into the Fort LeBoeuf (formerly Waterford Academy) High School Wall of Fame in 2010.

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also gave generously of his time and talent to his community. He was a volunteer fireman in Waterford at the Stancliff Hose Company for over 30 years, and served as Chief in the early 1970's. Bill also served on the Waterford Borough Council on the Parks and Recreation Committee.

Bill was employed as a mason by the Hardner and Doyle Company of Erie PA, and later had his own successful masonry company, "G.W. Skiff and Son," with his son James in Waterford.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra J. and two brothers, Russell Skiff, and Robert Skiff.

He is survived by four sons; James E. Skiff and his wife Carolyn of Pittsburgh, PA, David M. Skiff and his wife Ester of North Chili, N.Y., John P. Skiff of Erie, PA, and Daniel P. Skiff and his wife Karen, of Aiken, S.C.; also, ten grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah and Erin Skiff; Lauren Doyle, Morgan and Jordan Skiff; and Spencer, Alex, Sabrina and Nolan Skiff; two great-grandsons, Keenan and Teague Doyle, a brother, Roger Skiff and his wife, Narita, of Cary, N.C.; and three sisters-in-law, Dolly Skiff , of Madera, CA, Freida Wrona, of Mill Village, PA, and Mary Wrona, of Virgennes, VT.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 13, at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Aiken, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.

Death of Wilbur P. Osborn

Wilbur Osborn

Wilbur P. Osborn, 97, of Waterford, passed away at UPMC Hamot, on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

He was born on October 8, 1916, son of the late Harley and Nancy (Donnell) Osborn.

He is survived by his children: Don Osborn (Joanne) of Union City, Peggy Pifer (Dave) of Melbourne, Fla., Joanne Holst (Marvin) of Erie, Dale Osborn (Lynda) of Henderson, Ky., and Duane Osborn (Susan) of Union City. Also, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren survive.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his loving wife of 75 years, Grace R. Jones; his sisters, Doris Foster and Margaret Tryzbiak; his brother, Robert E. Osborn; granddaughter, Vicki (Osborn) Schrader; and great-great-granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Allen.

Wilbur's life work was all within the agricultural industry. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, since its inception, and was involved in the area Church Brotherhood. He was a founding member (#12) of the Dodge Brothers Club, and an active member of the Presque Isle Region Antique Automobile Club and the Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society. His focus in life was his faith, family, friends, and fanatic love of cars.

Friends may visit at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, on Monday, May 5, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 23 West Second Street, Waterford, PA 16441, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jim Fish will officiate. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.

Death of Roger L. Allen

Roger L. Allen, 88, Fort Atkinson, died on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

He was born on February 8, 1926, in Waterford, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Willard and Carabell (Morrow) Allen.

He was united in marriage to Lynda (Naughton) in 1952, and had a loving marriage for 61 years.

He graduated from Waterford High School (now Fort Lebeouf) in 1943, and later graduated from Gannon University, Erie Pennsylvania, in 1950, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, taking part in France and Germany, involved in three different battle campaigns. In France, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Wherever he moved or lived, he and Lynda would immediately join the local Lutheran Church. In those times, he served on different councils, foundations, and was active in Sunday School. He taught second and ninth grades, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School in a church in Erie. Roger was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, and recently belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. After graduating from college, he became a Floorcovering Buyer and Department Manager in the Boston Store (Associated Dry Goods Co.) in Erie. Roger was later transferred to H. and S. Pogue Co. (Another Associated Store) and served as a Floorcovering Buyer and Department Manager in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1969, he moved his family to Wisconsin, where he became a salesman with Milliken and Company, as a Territory Manager. Roger loved his family, enjoyed being a sports fan, and was an avid reader.

Roger is survived by his wife, Lynda; four sons, Curt (Sue) of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Craig (Renee) of Carrollton, Texas, Cary (June) of Grapevine, Texas, Chris (Sue) of Oconomowoc, Wis.; along with eight much loved grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Gates of Waterford, Pennsylvania.

Also preceding him in death was a brother, Elbert and a sister, Millicent.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., on Friday, at the church, until the time of service. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, Wis.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Lake Mills EMS or Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, Wis.

Everyone is welcome and the event will be kid friendly.

Your $5 cover includes a buffet, door prize, and a special prize from the Lake Erie Speedway for the first 100 people through the door, a DJ, dancing, and drinks for the kids. There will be Tip Boards, a 50/50 Raffle, and a Chinese Auction. A cash bar will also be available.

Jessica L. Lynch, age 26, of Erie, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014. She was born in Erie November 19, 1987, daughter of Marcia Evans Lynch and stepdaughter of Michael Hollarn, and daughter of the late David Lynch.

Jessica was a 2006 graduate of Ft. LeBoeuf High School and attended St. George Catholic Church. She enjoyed music, camping, cooking, and quality time with her family and friends, and her dog, Yezi. She was affiliated with St. George Roman Catholic Church.

Jessica is further survived by two brothers, Damien Lynch (fiancee, Hannah Metzger), Jacob Lynch; nephews, Austyn Page and Lincoln Lynch; stepbrother, Michael Hollarn; stepsister, Taylor Hollarn; five cousins, Lindsey, Matthew and Jeremy Lynch, Sarah Buettner, Joe Chrapowicz; and aunts and uncles.

Sue Bisbee Wertz, age 67, of Erie, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at UPMC Hamot. She was born in Meadville on September 20, 1946, daughter of the late Benjamin and Ruth Larsen Bisbee.


Sue grew up in Waterford, graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School, Class of 1965, and served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

Sue was employed with Hamot Medical Center for 32 years, retiring as the Hospitality Representative. She was a member of St. Mary's Auxiliary and Grandparent's Rights Association.

She is survived by one daughter, Tammy Frew of Fayetteville, N.C.; son-in-law, Robert Frew, III of Erie; two brothers, Tom Bisbee (Jan) of Meadville; Roger Higby (Cindy) of San Jose, Calif.; two grandchildren, Robert Frew, IV and Crystal Frew, both of Fayetteville, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Rhys, Julius, Jonah and Nevaeha; and three nieces, Danielle Higby, Angela, and Alicia Bisbee.

Yvonne Marie Babcock, 73, of Corry, died April 11, 2014, at her residence. Born May 24, 1940, in Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Leona (Howard) Fish and the wife of the late Ernest Glenn Babcock.

Yvonne attended the Salvation Army and was an avid bingo player, bowler, and loved doing puzzles.

She is survived by sons, Kevin Babcock and wife, Pam, of Mill Village, Ernest Babcock of Corry, LeRoy Babcock of Corry, Jeffery Babcock and wife, Missy, of Mapleton, and Jody Babcock and wife, Cara, of Harborcreek; sister-in-law, Eleanor Fish; daughters, Lori Babcock, Tina Babcock, and Judy Babcock, all of Corry; a brother, Rod Fish and wife, Linda, of Waterford; a sister, Carlene Whitman of Millcreek; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Jack, and Alvin Fish; and sisters, Marilyn "Kay" Hoag and Evelyn Fish.

Family and friends will be received at Michael S. Pandolph Funeral Home, Union City, from 4 p.m. until the hour of service at 7 p.m. Monday, with Rev. Clyde Cooper officiating.

Death of Joyce Elaine (Post) Shaffer

Joyce Elaine Shaffer, age 61, of Erie, passed away on March 30, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.

Born on January 26, 1953, in Chautauqua, NY she was the daughter of the late Fenton and Violet Hill Post.

She enjoyed writing and photography.

Survivors include sister, Louise Armagost and husband Lawrence of Lake City; daughter, Valerie Haag and husband Richard of Erie; son David Shaffer and girlfriend Diane. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Chad and Christopher Haag of Erie; and 2 great grandchildren, Ava and Skylar Haag of Erie. She is also survived by five nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street on Monday, April 14th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there at 1:00 p.m.

Death of David D. Kranking

David D. Kranking, 58, of Millcreek Township, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital.

He was born on February 2, 1956 in Erie, PA, son of Douglas C. Kranking and the late Peggy Esser Kranking Gornick.

Dave was a 1974 graduate of Fort LeBoeuf High School and California University of Pennsylvania, Dave started his career as an industrial arts teacher in 1977.

He later received his principal and supervisor certificate from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and his vocational director certificate from the University of Pittsburgh before becoming an administrator in the Erie City School District.

Dave was extremely passionate about helping his students be successful and impacted many young people's lives throughout his career.

Dave was actively involved with Boy Scouts of America where he served as scoutmaster of Troop 182 for 4 years.

His drive to help bestow leadership skills in young men and his love of the outdoors led to him being recognized as a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a longtime devoted parishioner and usher at St. George Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and camping.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Jessica Kranking and her fiance Glenn Strother; his granddaughter, Izabella; his sons, Jeffrey Kranking and his fiance, Lauren Krainski, and Benjamin Kranking; his brother, Patrick Kranking and wife Barb Kranking; his girlfriend, Katrine Danowski; his former wife, Jacqueline Kranking; and father, Doug Kranking.

The Fort LeBoeuf Historical Society announced they will be opening up for tours on April 3. They will be open Thursday from 10 - 3, Saturday 10 - 4 and Sunday from 1 - 4. Price is $4 for adults, $1 for children up to 12 - Not to exceed $10 per family. This cost entitles you to visit all three museums and enjoy the tours given daily. Both the Judson House and the Museum will have gift shops featuring many interesting items pertaining to the era of that particular museum. If your tour group would like to spend a day at our complex we can arrange some specials at the Sugar 'n Spice Restaurant which is located in the Eagle Hotel, and direct you to some specialty shops in our business area.

Thomas Paul Warner, 40, of Union City, Pa., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his residence.

He was born October 12, 1973, in Erie, Pa., the son of James W. and Cheryl (Gregg) Warner.

He was a landscape designer, owning his own business, and loved to plant flowers and vegetation and be with his friends. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 237, Union City, Pa.

Tommy is survived by his parents James W. and Cheryl (Gregg) Warner of Union City, Pa., his wife April (Fox) Warner, whom he married April 27, 2001, in Las Vegas, and two daughters, Taylor and Jaime Warner of Union City, Pa., brothers Jamie Warner and his wife Paula and Michael Warner, all of Union City, Pa.

Friends are invited to call at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 2 Dowman Street, Union City, Pa., on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and attend funeral services there on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Robert Hawk, from the Victory Family Worship Center of Conneaut Lake, Pa., will officiate.

Death of Andrew (Andy) Hinkle

Andy Hinkle

Andrew Edward Hinkle, age 39, of McKean Township, passed away at home on Sunday, March 16, 2014. He was the devoted husband of Melissa Palermo Hinkle.

Andy was born November 18, 1974 in Erie, the son of Mel and Laura Fuhrer Hinkle of Waterford. He graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams, and he enjoyed fishing, amusement parks, and was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Andy loved the outdoors and was always eager to help others. For the past 12 years, he worked as a union roofer for the Local #210.

Andy was proud of his family which includes his wife, Melissa, whom he married September 17, 2004; three daughters, Megan Palermo, Isabella and Kayci Hinkle; his parents, Laura and Mel; his brother, Marc Hinkle and his wife Kellie and their children Karlie, Hannah, and Bryce of Forty Fort, PA; his in-laws Denise Palermo, Vincent Palermo; brother-in-law Vincent Palermo II; close family friend Iluminada Rivera, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Those that preceded him in death include three uncles, Terrence, Mark, and William Fuhrer, and his grandparents, Edward and Jeanette Fuhrer, and Marvin and Mary Hinkle.

Family and friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and may attend the funeral service there on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Death of Charles B. Potter

The following was received from Sandi Clark:

Charles B. Potter, 52, of Erie, passed away suddenly, Monday, March 3, 2014, at South Lake Hospital, in Clermont, Fla.

He was born in Erie on May 16, 1961, a son of Sara H. Mortimer Potter and the late Burnam Potter.

Charles was a graduate of Ft. LeBoeuf High School and was an automotive technician with J.A. Holtz Garage. He was a much-loved "Uncle Chuck" to everyone who knew him. He enjoyed the water and sun, including scuba diving. He also enjoyed hunting, volleyball, and camping.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Hiles.

He is survived to his mother, his wife of 27 years, Susan Reichert Potter; one son, Christopher Charles Potter of Erie; one brother, Kenneth Potter of Erie; five sisters, Beverly Roberts (Mark) of Alabama, Lynette Edwards (Al) of Erie, Debbie Potter of Erie, Lori Regal (John) of Erie, and Lisa Muchero of Erie; his Godson, Tim Edwards of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services there at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private, and at the convenience of the family.

Born October 22, 1981 in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of Jeffrey T. and Anne M. Rosthauser.

Death of Barry Burdick

Barry Burdick

Received word from Garry Sargent that Barry Burdick has passed away.

Barry Freeman Burdick, originally from Waterford, PA was born June 4, 1939 to Lawrence and M. Christina Bittles Burdick. "Chief" Barry Freeman Burdick, age 74, passed away from natural causes on March 5, 2014.

Barry joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and served in various locations throughout the United States as well as overseas in Japan and Korea. After retiring in 1991 as Chief Master Sargent out of Keesler Air Base, he settled down in Gulfport, MS and worked at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before eventually moving to Adrian, MI

He enjoyed the simple things in life, whether it was a friendly game of poker or a morning chat over coffee and donuts. His personal time was often spent surrounded by his friends, family and faithful dog, Annabelle.

Barry is survived by his sister, Barbara (Garry) Sargent; five children, Rebecca (David) Nutter, Stephanie (Brad) Heiple, Michael Burdick, Larry Burdick, Felicia (Scott) Aysenne; nine grandchildren, Darren (Autumn), Kelly (Corey), Joshua, Kristopher (Christy), Paige, Kayla, Christian; three great-grandchildren, Wesley, Dylan, Eliana; and five beloved nephews. He was a brother, uncle, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a good and faithful friend as well as a stand-up Air Force Officer who will be greatly missed by all who have known him.

Funeral services for Barry will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, PA with his son-in-law, Reverend Brad Heiple officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will be in Waterford Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or the American Legion Post 285 of Waterford, PA.

Death of Kimberly (Pitt) Hartman

Kimberly L. Hartman, age 49, passed away Friday evening, January 24, 2014, at her residence in North East. She was born in Erie February 14, 1964, daughter of the late Arlo and Joyce Yaple Pitt.

She is survived by her children: Stephanie Hartman of Erie, Shanann Hartman of Wesleyville, Sara Hartman of North East, Robert Smith III of Erie, Brandon Smith of Erie, Kayla Smith of Erie, Nicholas & Aubrey Roach of North East; and a granddaughter, Abagail. She is also survived by her brothers, Douglas and Tim Pitt; and a sister, Pam Sueter.

She worked as a nanny for her close friend, Ann Marie Daubert. Kimberly was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She volunteered for Operation Christmas Child for several years. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was fascinated with Native American culture.

Friends may visit the family Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Park United Methodist Church of North East. The Rev. Heck of the North Park United Methodist Church will be officiating.

Death of Robert Holder

Robert Holder

Robert Holder, 83, of Greenville, formerly of West Middlesex, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at White Cliff Rehabilitation Center, Greenville, Pa. He was born on February 3, 1930 in Waterford, Pa., where he was raised with his younger sister and two younger brothers, by his parents Edgar and Esther Miller Holder.

He graduated from Waterford High School, as class vice president, and was voted most popular.

His life was successful in every meaningful way. After settling in West Middlesex, he built his own house, where he and his wife of 56 years raised three children. Bob served faithfully at church and maintained an attitude of service to others, throughout his life. Service to God was a primary focus. He sang in the church choir, served as Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader, and may other positions at the West Middlesex United Methodist Church. He also participated in numerous mission trips to Henderson Settlement, Kentucky. Following in the footsteps of his father Edgar, Bob was a member of the Eureka Lodge #366 of the Free and Accepted Masons, where he was a Master Mason, and became the youngest Worshipful Master at age 26. As a lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, and was generally known to be able to fix anything. After retirement from Pitney Bowes in 1990, he threw himself into his passion of gardening and raising fruit. Always seeking adventure, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, visiting multiple countries, including his favorite trip to Botswana for an African safari.

Bob will be remembered for his quick wit and smile, happy demeanor and his eagerness to help and give kindness to others, both friend and stranger. His final years were in Greenville, where he enjoyed being close to family, especially spending time with his five grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife Barbara, daughter Robin (Chic), son Chip (Merry-Jo), son David (Christine), grandchildren Casslyn, Robb, Calissa, Jocelyn and Jacob Holder, sister Constance Close (Calvin), brothers Donald (Donna) and Thomas (Lori), and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at The United Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex, Pa. on Saturday, February 1, 2014, with Masonic Service at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be at Smith Funeral Home, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex, on Friday, January 31 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Saturday at the Church from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m., for Masonic Service, followed by the funeral at Church, with Rev. Paul Mitchell and Rev. Wade Barto officiating.

Memorials may be given to Memorial Fund of the West Middlesex United Methodist Church or Souther Care Hospice.

Vicky Schwab

Vicky S. Schwab, age 56, of Corry, and formerly of Waterford, died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at UPMC Hamot due to injuries from an auto accident on January 9. The daughter of the late Bud and Martha Watts Robertson, she was born in Lumberton, NC on January 17, 1958.

For several years, Vicky was employed as a custodian at Fort LeBoeuf High School, but for the last 15 years, she team drove for USXpress with her best friend and companion, Jim Davis. Vicky loved driving and seeing all the 48 states with Jim, but she also loved to be home to spend time with her family? her daughter, grandkids, nieces and nephews. She always made it a priority to be involved with the activities of her family. Shopping, playing bingo, going to casinos, and visiting Las Vegas were some of her favorite things to do.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a nephew, PFC Garrett Conn, and two nieces, Antwanasia Robinson and Alesia Spain.

Family members include her daughter, Heidi Grimsley Bliley (Eric) of Waterford and their children, Macey and Ethan Bliley; her best friend, James Davis of Corry; his children, Missy Dyne (Sam) of Spartansburg, Sarah Davis of Corry, and Erika Davis of St. Clairsville, OH; his mother, Rosie Kent of Corry; and his four grandchildren, Haley, Sadie, Logan and Landon.

Vicky also has two sisters, Debbie Spain (Jimmy) of Erie, and Dale Post (Fran) of Waterford; and a brother, Michael Robertson (Sarah) also of Waterford. She loved her three nieces like daughters? Angela Proctor (Steve) and Heather Conn (Geoff), all of Waterford, and Randi Frost (Chris) of Seven Fields, PA; and also many more nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will take place there Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Rev. Emily Zeig-Lindsey of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterford. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the family to help with medical expenses.

Death of Gary J. Starvaggi

Gary Starvaggi

Gary J. Starvaggi, age 63, of Summit Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at his home, with his wife by his side. He had fought valiantly with pancreatic cancer.

Gary was born in Erie on March 23, 1950, he was a son of the late Frank and Agnes (Ore) Starvaggi.

Gary graduated from Ft. LeBoeuf High School in 1968, and was previously a member of the Perry Highway Hose Co., and served at every rank, including chief, in his 25 years of volunteering there. He was also a state instructor with the Tri County Volunteer Fireman's Association Fire School. He was a Gold Member of the Richard Petty Driving Experience. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a die-hard Richard Petty fan. He enjoyed hunting at his camp in Tidioute, with his close friends, Bill Gaston, Ron Jagta, Karl Mullinax, Michael Hershelman and Bill Spinks. Gary had been employed at Boyer R.V. Center for over 25 years.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 13 years, Patricia (Janosko) Starvaggi. He also leaves behind three children, Michelle Palmer, husband Michael, of Erie, Jackie Adams, of Waterford and Gary Starvaggi, of Erie, and their mother, Mary Jane Vogel; his sisters, Mary Agnes Starvaggi (Vic), of Erie, Beverly Kolesar (Rick), of Waterford, Angela Lynch (Danny), of North East and Beth Starvaggi (Kurt), of Waterford; his brothers, Frank Starvaggi (Becky), of Edinboro, Ron Starvaggi (Nancy), of Erie, Alan Starvaggi (Barb Wood), of North East, Ricky Starvaggi (Debbie), of North East, Anthony Starvaggi (Linda), of Erie, David Starvaggi (Karen Messinger), of North East, Steven Starvaggi (Ann), of North East; seven grandchildren, Nick, Zack and Kyle Adams, Ryan and Gyovanni Starvaggi and Brady and Bennett Palmer; three great-grandchildren, Kingston, Peyton and Eric; and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gary's family would like to thank his nurses, Stacey, Sue, Regina, and Becky.

Keith A. Charlton, age 59, of Summit Township, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Saint Vincent Health Center.

Born June 3, 1954 in Erie, he was one of six children of the late Ezekiel A. and Melva J. Lindenpitz Charlton.

Keith was active with the Fort LeBoeuf Bison Wrestling Club attending matches, tournaments, and practices, and was known to coach from the sidelines. He always showed interest in the kids and was known as "Coach Chicken Wing".

Keith had a great sense of humor and he adored his nieces, nephews and great-nephews. He loved to follow them in their activities.

Keith was a former employee of General Electric and an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Oakland Raiders.

Family members include three brothers and two sisters: Dane Charlton (Jill) of Erie, Gregory Charlton (Becky) of Sitka, AK, Rick Charlton (Mary) of Cambridge Springs, Cynthia Charlton of Polk, PA, and Beverly Charlton of Erie; his nieces and nephews: Kyle and Dane Jr., Adam and Seth, Rick and Joe, and Alyssa; his great-nephews: Tyler, Toby, Lance, Brayden, Aiden, and Liam; and his close friend, Melanie.

Visiting hours will be at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Friday, January 24th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and will continue Saturday at 1:00 until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Keith McGarvey of South Harborcreek United Methodist Church.

Memorials are suggested to be given to the Bison Wrestling Club, 2147 Hare Road, Waterford, PA 16441.

Death of Jerome D. Polancy
FLBHS Class of 1960

Jerome D. Polancy, 71, of Erie, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Presque Isle Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was born in Erie on May 18, 1942, a son of the late Joseph A. Polancy Sr. and Jennie R. Wagner Polancy.

Jerome was a 1960 graduate of Fort LeBoeuf High School and went on to work in maintenance with Associated Clinical Laboratories for 24 years. He was a member of the Sunflower Club.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph A. Polancy Jr.

Survivors include two brothers, Jack Polancy and James Polancy and his wife, Elaine, all of Erie; three sisters, Joan Parenti and her husband, Raymond, Judith Swabb and her husband, Martin, and June Kifer and her husband, John, all of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were private and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
